Donna, her husband and their two children, lived the story of the tent outside
of Tok, Alaska in 1977. They had the land, the tent, a dog, a cat and each other. She still lives there in the log cabin she
and her husband built.
Donna has sunce built three other cabins around her house and rents them in the summer as a Bed
& Breakfast. Her place is known as Winter Cabin. Donna would like to see her screenplay awards, made into a movie.
Both of her children have since grown up and have families of their own, inlcuding a set of twins.
Ms. Bernhardt is a writer by profession, She writes for the local newspaper and has self-published five books of poetry,
2 short historical books, two recipe books, a children's book and has performed and narrated three audio tapes.
Two full-length manuscripts have been optioned once, but not yet made, as movies.
A popular writer , Donna is seen in countless newspapers and magazines, from The Anchorage
Daily News to the Seattle Times and The Dallas Morning News.
She is Tok's and the Alaskan Highway's Poet Laureate.
Donna enjoys writing, oil painting, her children, living in her log cabin and and in her words
...just being Alaskan.
